What's your TV pick me up?

When I was a Sophomore in high school, I can vividly remember being so broken hearted and confused that I could barely breathe.  Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING could bring me up out of my teenage girl funk. 

Then one Thursday night, I was sitting alone in my room watching TV (thanks mom and dad for spoiling me so much that I had my own phone line AND TV in my room) and Friends came on.  I don't remember what episode it was exactly or whether I had watched it at all before but something they said or did made me laugh...out loud.  I had been crying so hard that my eyes had nearly puffed shut (as they tend to do when I cry; I guess I figure, go hard or go home).  Then suddenly, I was brought out of the depths of despair by a TV show and I was LAUGHING!*** It was at that moment that I realized that the boy that had broken my heart (and would do so several more times in the years that followed) wasn't the last boy I would love and that life would...somehow...go on.   It's all very dramatic, isn't it?  But that's what being a teenage girl is.  Drama.  

If I'm erring on the side of full disclosure here, I would say that I am still prone to fits of inexplicable tears.  Well, they're explicable to me but that is beside the point.  What I'm trying to say is that, from time to time, I give in to the blues.  I wail and sigh and play sad songs and then something happens.  Cassie does something so ridiculous I couldn't possibly keep crying.  Z says "let's play tennis tomorrow" ... how can I stay mad at someone who wants to play tennis with me?  I am HORRIBLE at tennis so he must be a saint.  And then sometimes, my funk is broken by something on television.  Friends has long since gone off air but I own the first season because I think I owe it to those five wacky kids.  That, and it's still funny.  I chuckle EVERY SINGLE TIME I think of the couch moving episode.  "PIVOT!  PIVOT!"

I don't really watch a lot of TV anymore.  Weird time zones and a general lack of time to vegetate are at the root of that I suppose.  But there are a lot of things on TV that instantly make me smile or in lieu of smiling, make me feel like my life ain't all that bad (ahem, can you say Intervention and Hoarders??).   Same goes for movies - I have a RomCom, Audrey Hepburn, 80s movies, and horror movie collection that is unparalleled but in the interest of simplicity, let's just stick to TV.

What are your TV pick me ups??

***some may call this bipolar but I think that may be a bit presumptuous. 

Salon Effects by Sally Hansen

 These are SO SO fun!  I have used Sally Hansen's Salon Effects nail stickers a couple of times and I really like the product.  It took me a couple of practice runs to get the hang of it but once you come up with a system, these really are pretty easy to put on.  It takes a little longer than just painting your nails but if you count drying time for wet paint, it's about the same or a little faster.
After a day or two, I usually go back and put a layer of top coat on the nails so they'll last extra long.  It's right what they say, they pretty much last 10 days. 

The sparkly ones I wore on our motorcycle trip (pictured above) would have lasted a month I think if I hadn't taken them off.  Some of the colors (solids) are easier to get off than patterns.  The glitter took FOREVER to remove so keep that in mind.  If you're hoping to do any quick changes with their patterned products, think again. 

You should also note that, in addition to the funky patterns, most of their colors so far are SUPER BRIGHT.  Even their 'red' was a little fluorescent.  In short, these aren't terribly work appropriate if you work in a professional "buttoned up" environment.  You could probably get away with some of these shades in the summer but I hope they expand the colors soon.  If you don't work in an office, though...have a blast with these!  They're a lot of fun!

There are step by step instructions in the package but here's a couple of tips I picked up while applying:

• Plan the best fit before you remove the stickers.  i.e. figure out which end of the sticker matches up with your cuticle line. 
• Make sure and remove both the white bottom layer and the clear top layer before cutting the strip to fit your nail. 
• If your nails are super short, use a small pair of scissors to cut down excess before you file down the sticker.  
• Use the file they provide when filing down the sticker.  It's softer than a regular nail file and you will not tear the sticker as easily.

Before you think you're reading that wrong, that's POINT THREE TWO ounces...NOT, repeat NOT 32 ounces.  Who are you kidding if you think you'd get 32 ounces of anything made by La Mer for $45.00 dollars.  Hell, if I were following their business model, I would charge you for even thinking about buying a La Mer product. 

Now that I'm done ranting I will admit that I want this.  I am not sure if I want it because it's decadent or because it's the only La Mer product under $50.00.  Either way, I suspect I won't be running to a Saks any time soon to pick some up. But who's to say you can't "want" something right?!?!?

 

On the flip side, I will TOTALLY be picking up (or ordering) Victoria's Secret's  Pro Smooth Lip FX scrub and balm.  It's a third of the price and it comes in this cute little tower.  What more could you ask for??  I've read some reviews that said the scrub actually tastes like sugar!  Where do I sign?? 

Dedicating this post to my bestie in support of her addiction to all things lip balm.  Hmmm...on second thought, it's a dual dedication to bestie and sis in law.  Both are chapstick addicts.  Enjoy ladies!

Buxom Lashliner and Buxom Lashliner Brush

Whether you're looking for a subtle line or you're hoping to channel a 1950s movie star, you can NOT go wrong with Buxom Lashliner.  My sister in law, Cameron, bought both the eyeliner and the brush for me last Christmas and I can't tell you how much I love the stuff.  I'm telling you, just the act of putting it on makes you feel like you're getting ready for something special...even if it is just a 9 am meeting.  I would highly recommend picking up the Buxom Lashliner Brush if you're going to get the eyeliner.  I'm sure there are cheaper versions out there, but I have never missed a line with that brush.  A little soap and water every now and then and it's good as new.

I assume the eyeliner lasts forever too.  I don't use it every day but at least every other day and I've barely made a dent since Christmas 2010.

It's a bit of a guilty pleasure but SO worth it!
